Permanent Makeup by Krista
Ever wanted to try permanent makeup but weren’t sure if it was right for you? We met with Krista Corrado of Skin Renewal to answer our most asked questions regarding both permanent makeup procedures. Take a look below for the 411 on this major time saver.
Hi Krista. Thank you for taking the time to educate me today. I have always been curious about permanent makeup but I must admit….anything permanent is kind of scary.
Krista: I completely understand. I really believe the benefits of permanent makeup are worth it to so many people once they get over the initial fear of the procedure. Think about how much time you spend doing your makeup. Over 365 days and many, many years, that time adds up. Permanent makeup provides a great solution for people who don’t want to continuously maintain their appearance throughout the day. It is also amazing for those with scars, discolorations, and brow hair loss who want a more permanent cover up.
Are there different types of applications? Like with hair you have semi-permanent and permanent?
Krista: Yes. You have micro-blading and micro-pigmentation. People often refer to these processes as Hybrid Eyebrows, 3D Eyebrows, or Makeup Tattooing. They are all very similar. It’s the technique and permanency that varies.
How are micro-blading and micro-pigmentation different?
- Semi-permanent procedure lasting 6 months – 1 year.
- Results are hair like strokes that insert pigment with a hand tool.
- The procedure takes about 2 hours to complete.
- Healing time is 3-7 days.
- Touch-up appointment recommended in 6 weeks to perfect the strokes.
- “Permanent” procedure lasting 3-7 years.
- Results are hair like strokes done with a digital hand held device that inserts pigment under the skin surface.
- The procedure takes 2 hours.
- Pigment used is a long lasting, sterile, and an organic substance.
- Minimal discomfort with topical numbing cream.
- Healing time is 7-14 days.
- Touch up is recommended in 6 weeks to finish the look.
What will permanent (Micro-pigmentation) eyebrows look like right after?
Krista: Gaucho Marks…lol. Just Kidding. It will be bold. The color sits at the top of the skin and looks about 50% darker until it heals. This is when clients often worry that they made a mistake in getting their eyebrows done but trust me it fades. The color will exfoliate off the top and leave a beautiful soft color as the final result.
Will they look real?
Krista: I do the absolute best possible job to match color and skin tone. I pride myself on making my clients happy and giving them the most natural looking brows possible.
How much upkeep is involved? Can I just do it one time?
Krista: As with anything it requires some maintenance for best results. For micro-pigmentation this happens every 2-5 years, depending on the skin type, color, sun exposure, and exfoliation levels.
What is the aftercare required after the procedure?
Krista: Some swelling and redness is normal and expected 24 hours following the procedure. A cold compress helps to reduce swelling around the brow area. The treated area must be kept clean and dry for several days. Please do not wear makeup during this time. Some mild peeling and lightening may occur during the healing process. Adjustments and touch ups can be done during the follow up appointment.
Your regular routine can usually be resumed immediately after the procedure however, tanning, swimming, vigorous exercise, and wetting of the area should be avoided for a few days.
Do you offer consultations before the procedure?
Krista: Yes, I meet with each client to assess the condition of skin, provide a color match/examples, and to answer any questions you may have. My goal is 100% client satisfaction.
